He is also the Councillor from Malviya Nagar (Ward No. 161) in the South Delhi Municipal Council (SDMC).He took over as the President, Delhi BJP in July 2014 after the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, he also served as the Vice President, Delhi BJP unit and as Secretary, Delhi BJP unit in 2010-12 and 2009-2010 respectively. Upadhyay joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his school days and was a prominent Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leader in the 1980s. He has also been a Member of Censor Board of Film Certification and TAC, Delhi. ==Early life== Born and brought up in a middle-class family in Delhi, having roots in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, he is the youngest among his eight siblings. Since his school days, he had tremendous leadership qualities and showed keen interest in social welfare.
